Most Commonly Asked Questions
FAQ's
01
What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is a safe, controlled force applied to a specific joint in the spine or other parts of the body. The goal is to restore proper movement and alignment, which in turn helps to relieve pain and improve your body’s overall function. The chiropractor may use their hands or a small, specialized instrument to perform the adjustment.
02
What is the “Pop” or “Cracking” Sound?
You might hear a "popping" or "cracking" sound during the adjustment. This is perfectly normal and nothing to be alarmed about. The sound is simply the release of gas bubbles from the fluid within your joints, similar to when you crack your knuckles. It’s not bones cracking or grinding together. Many people feel immediate relief and increased mobility after an adjustment.
03
Will I Be Sore After My Appointment
Feeling a little sore after your first adjustment is common, much like you might feel after a new workout. This is usually mild and temporary. Your chiropractor will provide you with instructions on how to manage any discomfort at home, such as applying ice or heat.
04
Why Do I Need Care In Frequent Intervals?
Frequent chiropractic visits in the beginning are essential because your body requires consistent reinforcement to create lasting change. During the initial phase of care, your spine and muscles naturally want to revert to their previous stressed positions, much like how a broken bone needs a cast for weeks to properly set or how braces must be worn daily to straighten teeth effectively. The first few weeks focus on reducing inflammation, restoring proper movement, and accelerating the body's natural healing process. Without regular adjustments, this progress can easily slip backward.
As your body begins to hold adjustments better and maintain proper alignment on its own, the frequency of visits will naturally decrease. This process-oriented approach ensures that you not only feel better quickly but also develop the stability needed to prevent future flare-ups, with regular re-evaluations ensuring your care plan continues to align with your specific goals and progress.
05
Are Chiropractors A Doctor?
Yes, chiropractors are licensed physicians. To earn the title of Doctor of Chiropractic (DC), an individual must graduate from an accredited chiropractic school, which adheres to the same high educational standards as other medical institutions. Like all other types of doctors, chiropractors are required to pass rigorous state and national board examinations to demonstrate their competency and earn their license to practice. Furthermore, they must fulfill state-mandated continuing education requirements throughout their careers to stay current with the latest advancements in the field. This extensive training and credentialing process ensures that chiropractors are qualified medical professionals, just like medical doctors, osteopaths, and dentists.
06
Do I Need a Prescription (from my MD) to See A Chiropractor?
For some insurance groups, this may be required, but for the majority, you can go directly to your chiropractor. In Washington state, DCs are considered primary care providers that can assess neuromusculoskeletal conditions and related functional issues. Chiropractors do not perform surgery or prescribe medication but can refer to other specialists or facilities if needed.
07
Is it Safe to See a Chiropractor During Pregnacy?
Yes, chiropractic care is absolutely safe during pregnancy when performed by a qualified practitioner. Dr Sara holds certification through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and is trained in Webster techniques, which are specifically designed for pregnant women. These specialized techniques help improve pelvic alignment for labor, reduce the risk of breech presentation, relieve pregnancy-related discomfort, and optimize fetal positioning.
